I absolutely love the holiday season and always try to make it as magical as possible. Whether it’s checking out holiday light displays, visiting our favorite festive restaurants or snuggling up with hot cocoa and Christmas movies, it really is the most magical time of the year! I’m always looking for new places to visit and experience and when I was invited to check out the Season of Joy Celebration at Sawmill Creek Resort, I couldn’t wait to check out everything it had to offer!

Sawmill Creek Resort is located in Sandusky, Ohio near the shores of Lake Erie and surrounded by 200 acres of lush woodlands. Driving into the resort was pure magic in itself; all of the trees were covered in Christmas lights and we felt like we were tucked away in a Hallmark movie! Completely renovated in 2022, the lodge is home to 239 guest rooms and a wide variety of amenities on property including an indoor and outdoor pool, fitness center (one of THE nicest fitness centers I’ve ever seen), golf course, restaurants, and more! Our room was spacious, cozy and I loved that there was a fireplace in it! It really sets the mood for the season!

During the holidays, Sawmill Creek Resort transforms the lodge into a winter wonderland complete with live entertainment, holiday themed workshops and delicious food and drinks! I loved that they had so much to do there and that there was no reason to leave! A true getaway!

Live entertainment: Throughout the day you can experience live entertainment around the resort and in the rotunda! A quartet of carolers and a vintage trio, “The Mistletones” sing all the Christmas classics to get you into the holiday spirit! I also loved the Fireside Family Christmas, it’s a short performance  (think classic TV special) with songs, dancing and feelings of nostalgia. Truly heartwarming!

Food and Drinks: Sawmill Creek offers a variety of dining locations:

The Miller’s Table: We ate at The Miller’s Table quite a few times and I cannot recommend it enough! If you like deviled eggs I highly recommend the BLT Deviled Eggs. Literally the best deviled eggs I’ve ever had! I also thoroughly enjoyed the Filet and Poutine! They also offer a variety of festive cocktails; I got the Candy Cane Martini and it tasted like Christmas in a cup!

Harvest: Harvest is open for a breakfast buffet and they offer everything from fresh fruit, waffles, cereal, bacon, eggs, potatoes, biscuits + gravy and more!

Creekside Market: Creekside Market features grab-and-go options; sandwiches, wraps, snacks, etc. They also serve Starbucks drinks and fresh baked treats! And in case you need any toiletries, medicine, etc, you can find this there as well.

The Hideout Christmas Bar: We love a festive bar and this one is covered from floor to ceiling in decor! Enjoy a speciality cocktail or a cold beer while listening to festive tunes with family and friends.

 

Holiday Bootcamps: Sawmill Creek offers a variety of boot camps including a cookie decorating workshop, a Christmas charcuterie class, and a mixology class!

Cookie Decorating Workshop: This class is led by the head chef of Sawmill Creek Resort and you get the chance to learn new techniques and add your own creative spin to decorating! You’ll also get to leave with 4 finished cookies! We didn’t get to do this class but it looked like a ton of fun!

Christmas Charcuterie Class: Everyone loves a good charcuterie board and I loved being able to learn all about making the perfect one! The head chef led us through choosing meats (we even learned how to make charcuterie flowers!), selecting cheeses and additional accompaniments and assembled everything on a slab! Which we were able to wrap up and take home at the end- so much fun!

Taste of the Season Mixology Class: Located in the festive Hideout Bar, this class took us through the different “tools” used when making drinks as well as a little bit about each type of alcohol. We then learned how to make a “Bad Santa” cocktail and it was SO good!

Note: Be sure to sign up prior and arrive 15 minutes early because classes do fill up quickly!
