I’m not going to lie, when I was pregnant with Bubba, I developed FOUR cavities. No, I was not eating Bon Bons and chasing them down with fruit punch for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When you’re pregnant, your teeth and gums become extremely vulnerable due to the hormones raging through your body.
This time, I wanted to make sure to avoid that catastrophe and take extra good care of my pearly whites. When I was invited to try Phillips Sonicare PowerUp toothbrush, I jumped right on it!
I’ve never used an electric toothbrush before and I was surprised at how affordable this toothbrush was. For only $17.97 at Walmart (see my experience here), I felt okay trying it knowing it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg.
It scared me at first! I wasn’t sure how I felt about my whole mouth vibrating but once I used it for a few days, I got used to it. I could really tell a difference the first time I used it, and according to the box, it removes more plaque than a manual brush. Even though I consider myself a great teeth brusher, I apparently wasn’t getting down deep enough since I had four cavities during my first pregnancy!
The greatest feature? A two minute timer! Although I make sure I brush my teeth well every time, I don’t think I ever brush for the recommended two minutes. This turns off after two minutes of using to ensure you’re brushing long enough to get them clean as they need to be. With my history of cavities during pregnancy, I am all for getting a month’s worth of brush strokes in a day.
