With Zach’s recent return to the states, I’ve obviously been planning his homecoming for quite some time. While to most people homecoming means a fancy dance at the high school, it means something different to military families. Homecoming is a moment; it’s the first time you see your loved one after they’ve been deployed for months and it’s absolutely magical.

So to prepare for that “moment”, I threw a little military pre-homecoming party with some of my girlfriends. Zach’s homecoming was different because he was only one of two coming home, but most of the time it’s an entire unit. Which means a ton of wives who have stuck together through the late nights, early mornings, and few and far between phone calls or messages.

Although not all of my friends needed to prepare for homecoming this go around, they may someday… and if anything, they helped me! It gave us a chance to choose outfits, plan our meals and workouts, and make signs for the special day. And as a thank you, allowed me to pamper them with some goodies to prepare for our spouses’ return.

I headed to Walmart to pick up my supplies and here’s what the goodie bags included:

Tissues (obviously homecoming is super emotional)

Nail polish and nail file (gotta look fly for your man, right?)

Chapstick (get those lips ready for smooching)

Face masks (prepping can get stressful…)

V8 Protein Bars (because workin’ on your fitness is always a priority)

We had a blast! We looked through magazines to find inspiration for our outfits. Finding the perfect outfit is super important and as I learned, waiting until the last minute makes it super stressful. Plan ahead… just trust me.

After not seeing your spouse for quite sometime, you want to look and feel your best. Of course the outfit helps, but it starts weeks to months before that with working out and eating right. These V8 Protein Bars are such an easy solution to making good-for-you choices; the Chocolate Peanut Butter ones were delicious and give you the little indulgence you need everyday.. who needs comfort food when you can have your cake protein bar and eat it too? Or something like that… 😉 V8 also makes protein shakes if that’s more your thing…

Military homecomings are so special for everyone involved; soldiers can’t wait to get home to their families and the families on the home front can’t wait to have their soldier home. Throwing a little get-together gives you a chance to plan everything out so that when it’s time, you can focus on one thing…. get your soldier home 🙂
