How I use essential oils for anxiety

Curious as to how I use essential oils for anxiety? Read all about it below!

I’ve been “using” essential oils for years but I say that loosely. I’ve had them sitting in drawers and I’ve diffused a few here and there but I never really got into a routine with them. And to be 100% honest with you, I still don’t know that I’m using them to their fullest potential. But I have been using them more routinely and well I still feel like I have a lot to learn, I wanted to share how I use essential oils for anxiety and how they’ve helped me!

So first things first, I started using a brand that not many people have heard of. And while I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the brand, I was schooled on the benefits of Young Living oils. I’ll save you the sales pitch because honestly, I’m not here to sell them. If you want to buy some after reading this, great! I am SO happy to help you get some! But if you want to read more about why I chose Young Living oils, I’ve linked some of their literature here!

I also found this article that I think is worth sharing. It dives into why aromatherapy works (not for everyone, but doesn’t hurt to try!). This part was kind of the nitty gritty of it:

“Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit. “Aromatherapy has been used for centuries,” says Gujral. “When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain.”

DIY young living essential oil rollers

Okay so let’s go through a typical day:

When I first wake up, I use a roller with Lavender, Peppermint, and Lemon. I started doing this for my allergies but I’ve found it wakes me up and puts me in a happy mood! So I rub it on my wrists and behind my ears and then take a deep breath to breathe in the goodness!  Anxiety can affect your breathing (I often find myself shallow breathing because my nose is stuffy and I can’t get a good deep breath!) so this roller is kind of a 2 for 1 for my anxiety and allergies.

Throughout the day, I’ll use my CBD Roller. Now this is something new and that I just started using a few weeks ago. I will rub this on my wrists and at the base of my neck. It’s pricey and I’m still on the fence on if it’s really “working” or not but I do feel a bit calmer after using it.

Other times throughout the day I’ll use these combinations for my anxiety: Stress Away, Lavender, Gentle Baby, Valor and Peace and Calming. Sometimes I’ll use a roller and other times I’ll just put it directly on my wrists. Sometimes I just take a deep inhale from the bottom. You kind of have to play around with it and see what works best for you!

For bedtime I use a roller with Gentle Baby and Lavender; I use on my wrists, behind my ears and on the bottoms of my feet. Then I massage it all in! I also use the Seedlings Linen Spray and do a spritz of it on my pillow! Combine these with a nightly sleep meditation and I’m out like a light!

For tension headaches (which I think also stem from stress and anxiety) I use a roller of Frankincense, Peppermint, Panaway, Lavender, and Copiaba. This is the recipe I use below!

There are SO many other uses so this is just how I’ve started incorporating them into my life! I personally do not ingest essential oils so I strictly apply them topically or diffuse them. And while some people may not understand the benefits or think they’re slightly “crunchy”, to each their own! There’s a ton of research but if you really want to see their benefits, try them for yourself!

Why did I sign up as a member instead of just ordering a few oils here and there? Mostly because as a member, you get a discount. And who doesn’t want to save money?! But if you don’t want the obligation, you can either find someone to order them for you at the discounted price or pay retail online. But I recommend finding someone so you get the wholesale price 🙂

Here are some of the items I’d recommend getting if you’re going to be trying them:

The Young Living Starter Kit: I know it sounds like a big investment but you get the diffuser and a ton of oils that would cost way more separately if you did it that way. It gives you a ton of great ones and there are a ton of resources online that will help you figure out what to do with them!

Diffuser: If you’re not ready to make the investment, grab a diffuser separately. I linked this one from Amazon that got a ton of great reviews but Young Living also has them available separately.

Fractionated coconut oil: This is what you’ll use to make roller blends. There are a ton of ideas on Pinterest!

Clear roller bottles: You’ll want glass bottles to make your roller blends. Make sure you get glass, not plastic!

Dried floral petals: Of course you don’t NEED these but they make the rollers even prettier!
