Who are you when you’re hungry?

When I worked full-time, there was nothing I looked forward to more than 5 p.m. It meant my day was finally over and I could head home to do whatever I pleased…including a hot meal! Fast forward 4 years and I no longer leave at 5 p.m… I sit and wait for my husband to walk through the door so I can have a few minutes to myself. And those minutes are usually spent making dinner, which at that point I’m starving and wish I could snap my fingers and have it finished already. Because I’m certainly not myself when I’m hungry…
I love being a stay-at-home-mom, but somedays are certainly more challenging than others. My kids certainly know how to push my buttons and kick me when I’m down. Half of the time I forget to eat or don’t have time to. Those are the days I can feel my blood pressure rising and I swear I’m going to turn green and Hulk right out of my clothes. Those are the days I need to leave the room and sit somewhere to relax and recompose myself. And shove a Snickers® down my throat 😉
How else do I handle the rough days?
Online shopping. Retail therapy is real people.
Put my phone down. I read something somewhere that said seeing everyone’s perfect lives on social media can sometimes affect how we react to things actually happening in our lives. It made a ton of sense and I’ve tried to be more conscious of that.
Step outside. Sometimes all you need is a little fresh air.
Distract. So your kid is throwing a fit about a toy? Show him something else. We usually put a music video on the computer and it solves everything!
Bake. Ask your kids if they want to help you make muffins or cookies. Doing an activity (especially one you can eat) always calms them down.
Go for a walk. Pull the kids in the wagon or take a jog with a jogging stroller. We all know endorphins make you happy!
Eat a Snickers®. Seriously, whoever said diamonds are a girls best friend was right, but chocolate is a girl’s second best friend. These Peanut Butter Squares are amazinggggggg and the Snickers® Almond was gone in just a few bites too. It’s pretty crazy how much better I feel after eating 🙂
If I’m having a really bad day, I step away for a little while when Z gets home. Whether it’s a quick trip to Speedway to grab a Snickers® or heading to a photo shoot with my friends, it’s good to take a breather and keep yourself from Hulking out 😉
