Are moms that drink, bad moms?

Guilty pleasure: Snooki and Jwoww. I love, love, love these girls. They may not be the sharpest crayons in the box but hey, I’m not always on point either. Watching this brought to mind “Are moms that drink, bad moms?”

Life and style blogger, The Samantha Show brings you a post touching on motherhood. + A question we are sometimes faced with, are moms that drink, bad moms?

I was watching the episode where Snooki goes out with her friends and gets a little crazy.  She drinks too much, makes out with her friends, and blacks out. Our typical “party’s here” Jersey Shore Meatball Snooki is back and in full force.

Jionni, her fiance, is not very happy with her and basically rips her a new one. I understand why he’s upset (she did get a little extreme), but here’s my question for all of you.

Does this make her a bad mom?

Society has placed this stigma on motherhood where if we drink, we are bad moms. I’ll admit, I like to have a glass of wine here and there. Am I drinking to the point where I’m putting my son in danger? Absolutely not. But occasionally, I have a drink or two. Does that make me a bad mom?

Are moms that drink, bad moms?

If anyone knows me, you know I love my Bubba more than anything. He’s my first priority, the light of my life, and my absolute everything. Z jokes that I love Bubba more than I love him and while I don’t think that’s true (I love them differently), I have definitely put Bubba first.

I made the decision to breastfeed Bubba for 15 months and although I loved every minute of it, there were definitely things I couldn’t do and sacrifices I made to give him the best gift I could. I have absolutely no regrets and I will breastfeed every child from here on out.

But sometimes, I like to have fun and take the edge off too; have some time for me again. I’m not going out like I did in college (trust me, College Sam would kick my butt in drinking) but I don’t see any harm in having a few adult beverages on holidays, special occasions, or on a random weekend with friends. I’m a 26 year old woman and although I’m a wife and a mom too, I’m also me.

I used to be the life of the party; a shot taking, beer guzzling, bar hopping, dancing queen. Obviously, those days are longggggggg gone but I don’t think having a few drinks once and awhile makes me a bad mom. You either Snooki, because I think you’re a fabulous mommy…

I don’t like going to bars anymore; I get claustrophobic, overwhelmed, and hate being away from Bubba. Drinking copious amounts of alcohol and blowing cash like it’s my job is just not for me anymore. I experienced four years of college and two years post college where I got all of that out of my system.

However, I don’t see a problem with drinking responsibly. Don’t think you’ll catch me drinking every night or even every weekend; but as an adult, I should be able to enjoy a glass or two of wine while watching a movie or out to dinner with my husband.

What are your thoughts on young moms drinking? Is it wrong to have a few drinks every so often? Are you personally a mom that has a few drinks once in awhile? What do you say to people if and when they give you a hard time?
